Heavy Duty Quiet Electric Latch Retraction Three Point Locking Device - (versions suit doors <915mm & 1220mm)
Quiet electric latch retraction (QEL) provides electronic control of an exit device for environments where limited operational noise is desired. The QEL option is Von Duprin’s solution for hospitals, libraries, museums and theatres where ambient noise can be disruptive. The Quiet One® —A fluid dampener decelerates the touch bar on its return stroke and eliminates most noise associated with exit device operations. It is furnished on all 98/99 series exit devices. These devices always provide mechanical egress. The electrified latch retraction can be activated by an access system or building automation system to unlatch the exit device momentarily. Often, the QEL is used with a credential reader and access control system to unlock the door momentarily for authorised users. The QEL can also be configured to electronically retract the latch for an extended period to allow free entry. This is a convenient alternative to mechanical dogging. If manual dogging is required, the hex dogging option is available to order - specify HD-QEL. Special centre case dogging is also available; specify SD-QEL.
Per BS EN 1125: 2008 Annexe A (informative), the device should be installed with the touch bar typically between 900mm and 1100mm from the finished floor level when the door is secure. Where it is known that most of the premises' occupants will be young children, it is acceptable to reduce the fixing height accordingly.
- Device functions - Ships ready for functions; EO, DT & NL - for TP, K & L remove the NL drive screw from the reverse of the device
- Universal - Non-handed, suits LH & RH doors
- Device lengths - Devices suit door widths to 915mm; optional devices suit doors to 1220mm
- Device heights - Devices suit door heights to 2134mm; the inclusion of the optional extension rod adds a maximum of 915mm
- Finishes - US28 (628) Anodized Aluminium. Alternative plated finishes are available for special order
- Rim latch strikes - Ships with standard 299 roller strike; optional strikes are available to suit alternative frame details. 299 standard roller strike with 21mm projection, used with conventional frames where the door stile width permits the necessary backset. 1609 optional strike used on doors with flush frames
- Vertical latch bolt strikes - Ships with standard 299 roller strike, bottom strikes 248L-4 and 304L. Optional strikes suit alternative frame details. 299 top roller strike with 21mm projection, used with conventional frames where a reveal >32mm exists. 248L-4 bottom strike for use with flat top thresholds. Since the strike projects by 10mm, care should be taken to ensure installation does not pose a trip hazard. 304L optional bottom strike for use where a mortice installation is desired. Please note - Both the 248L-4 & 304L bottom strikes are supplied as standard with all surface-mounted vertical rod devices
- QEL option available on all 98/99, 94/95 and 33A/35A series exit devices
- Energy efficient motorised latch retraction utilises a standard 2 amp power supply, enabling longer wire runs from power

If the device is used externally, we recommend the Von Duprin mechanical 98/99 rim exit device with one of the powder-coated finishes. We can add weep holes to mechanism cases if required. Regular lubrication of devices with DuraLube (available as part 091091) or similar may extend the life of the device. Electrified devices have not been tested or approved for outdoor use.
This range of architectural-grade escape devices includes the 98 Series with its smooth mechanism case and the established 99 Series with its familiar grooved design. The two styles are mechanically and dimensionally identical and provide a solution for standard stile applications down to 89mm. They are best suited to heavy-duty situations on perimeter and internal doors where architectural-grade safe egress in panic emergencies is required.
